  Educate you on Medicare Part "D"   Review your current supplemental Medicare supplemental health insurance plans. Know that if you have a Medicare Supplemental Insurance plan "H", "I" or "J", it will no longer be  available after January, 2006.  You will be better served by transferring to another plan and then purchasing Medicare Part "D". . There is more than just the prescription drug benefit in Medicare Part D so all your Medicare  Supplemental Health Insurance should be reviewed.   Determine if you qualify for an "Extra Help"  benefit within Medicare Part "D" for people with  limited resources and income. • Other Things To Know About Medicare Part D:
   

  There will be some 50 - 100 plans under Medicare Part "D" announced on October 1st, 2005   The benefits of Medicare Part "D" differ based  upon your qualification for "Extra Help."   The standard premium fee  is estimated to be $35.00 per month.

•  Basic Time Table for Coverage:
   

  Initial enrollment for Medicare Part D begins on November 15th, 2005.   If you join Medicare Part D by December 31st,  2005, your coverage begins on January 1st, 2006.   The initial enrollment period for Medicare Part D ends May 15th, 2006.   If you join Medicare Part D between January and  May 15th, you are accepted, but your coverage will  begin the first day of the month following your enrollment.   You can switch supplemental Medicare insurance  plans during the open enrollment period.  There will  also be an annual "open enrollment" from November  15th - December 31st for switching plans if  appropriate.   Late enrollment fees apply May 15th!fg

• State Assistance Programs:
   

  In addition to Federal Medicare supplemental health insurance, you may also qualify for help from your state.   Medicare plus California programs can sometimes help those with  higher incomes, etc. Insurance Advisors can help you find out.
